Maestros Leadership Team joins the campaign to end violence against women and girls. #OrangeUrWORLD. Through a partnership with Ministry of Justice through the Blantyre High Court, Malawi Police & Women Judges Association of Malawi, Maestros Leadership Team took a leading role in the inaugural event for 16 Days activism to end violence against women and girls.

According to The Founder and CEO of Maestros Leadership Team, Charles Lipenga, the event was a success and he thanked all the participants and partners.

“We invited a number of stakeholders including students from different schools to participate. We also had motivational talks and a tour of the court.” Lipenga said.

Prior to the event several women judges and Maestros leaders across Malawi made pledges through public profile picture messages showing their stand to end gender-based violence.

Malawi is one of the world’s poorest countries – 50.7 percent of the country’s population lives under the poverty line according to UNDP.

Apart from Poverty and sexual harassment, most young girls are forced into

early marriages. Child marriage is one of the biggest factors holding back girls around the world. When young girls are forced to marry before completing an education their own opportunities are limited. This limits the potential for the individual girl and hurts social and economic progress for their community and country.

According to a study by the United Nations in 2012 over 50 percent of girls in Malawi are married before the age of eighteen. Maestros Leadership Team also understands the need to protect vulnerable girls from practices such as sexual initiation which can be incredibly psychologically damaging.
